It's A Girl!!!!

When we went for our ultrasound I walked into the room and told the tech straight off the bat "we want to know, so whenever you see anything please feel free to share, seriously, we want to know." I'm sure she thought I was nuts. Especially when a few minutes later after labeling several perfectly developed body parts she said "oh look, can you see it?" I couldn't see a penis anywhere so I was very confused.  Then she said "It's a girl." I literally popped up my head so fast the wand on my belly bounced.

I still I can't believe it! For some reason I thought I would only have boys. Obviously God and Darren's sperm had other plans.

Right after the tech left the room Darren said "whatever she wants she will have, if she wants a unicorn she will have a unicorn."  I find this funny because when we (I) thought we were having a boy Darren talked about how strict he was going to be and how he was going to raise little men.

Honestly I have a different perspective too. I have no idea why but I'm scared shitless!  But the funny thing is everytime I've felt this way the most amazing things have happened. And, let's face it, this is going to be AWESOME!!

Plus I saw our daughter on a commercial tonight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mZiu3C_5Xg

Look out world Baby Hawk is going to rock you!

  5. You are gonna love it!!! :) I was certain both my girls were boys until the second they were born - so it was shocking! Darren's reaction is better than Jay's. He just looked at the girls and said "they're wearing brown sweat pants until they are 30"!

From Doer to Leader, 5 Tips to Make the Transition

You did it! You got the promotion and now manage a team. It doesn't matter if it's a team of 1 or 100 your skill set must shift from doer to leader. While many a doer get promoted, few take on the actual characteristics of a leader. Instead they stay in doer mode causing frustration, resentment and turnover in their organization. This is what I refer to as "death by doer." Killing all hope, creativity and productivity of a team. Don't become the grim reaper of your team. Instead adopt these simple behaviors to ignite passion in your group and share your doer gifts. Stop doing and starting teaching Why were you such a successful doer? Because you thought differently than your peers. It's time to share that thinking with your team. As a leader it's your job to teach your team how to think, not what to think. Many a leader get caught up in micromanaging tasks. They believe there is only one way to accomplish a task and it's theirs. This is the u...

That's a Real Baby!

Darren and I got to see our little baby this week! He/she is measuring 13 weeks and 1 day and everything looked healthy. This picture cracks me up because the baby looks like it's pouting because we woke it up.  We did though, the tech was pushing on my belly like I do when I'm trying to get into pair of jeans that are too small!  Baby Hawk wouldn't move! Enter the Kashi cereal bar.  I hadn't eaten in nearly 4 hours (the appointment was VERY long) so I ate my Kashi bar that I always keep in my purse for ultrasound emergencies. BOOM, baby Hawk was wiggling and sucking and even looked like he/she was sucking it's thumb! Yes, this is indeed my baby, I go nuts for food too! I do think the profile looks like Darren though. Darren makes this cute pouty face when he's being funny.  So, the mystery is solved, this is Darren's baby. Whew, we were wondering. I'm totally kidding people! This picture is sort of creepy to me but I must share my 3-D picture. I...

LeaderSHIFT Academy

Each week I bring you a tip in the hopes that you not only enjoy the writing but you also implement positive change in your life. After months of planning I'm ready to take this a step further. Making the SHIFT It all started when I received my undergraduate degree and entered adulthood. I began to see something akin to an illness all around me. No matter how many promotions I received or how high I climbed the corporate ladder it was still there, in every level of management.  Even after receiving my MBA surrounded by some of the smartest people I've ever met, there it was, the plague.  What is this disease I refer to? The lack of sustainably* successful leadership.  I threw myself into biographies, podcasts and personal development books with the sole purpose of understanding what made a sustainably successful leader tick. Why were there so few? In July of this year everything fell into place. During a corporate event, Brendon Bruchard spoke ab...
