I've been reading a ton of pregnancy and parenting books about how to raise healthy, emotionally well-adjusted children. Dr. Oz claims that by eating certain foods, when pregnant, you will bring out good and bad traits in your children. I'm pretty sure my brother is a pain in butt from time to time because my mother drank diet coke while pregnant with him. When she was pregnant with me she loved ice cream which caused my need to correct other's grammar and talk incessantly. This should tell you how much stock I'm putting in all this research. I don't believe any of it. If my kid is screwed up I'm not blaming it on the chicken fingers I ate. Now the french fries, maybe.
What is the dumbest parenting/pregnancy advice you have heard? I would love a good laugh, please share.
I'm going to go eat some chocolate covered pretzels.

This post is why I love you. There is so, so much dumb advice that is often freely shared. I have to think about it and will be back. Bad comment, I know.
ReplyDeleteI dont know that I would necessarily call it bad advice, but just annoying...the lactation consultants at the hospital were sooo close minded and believed any formula was the devil. They actually said to my husband "Before that at three weeks, she is going to say the F word....FORMULA! Do not let her use any!" Breastfeeding is hard enough without crazies judging. That is the only thing that stands out.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, you would die if you met this crazy girl that works with me. She is obsessed with babies/having children and believes every stupid things she hears/reads. She seriously believes you can control the sex of your baby by what you eat. She also pretty much shames you if you send your kids to daycare or dont breastfeed until they are teenagers like she does (you think im kidding - she breastfeeds until she is ready to get preggo again, which is about every 2 years.). She told me you cant drink tap water, especially if you live in a cove, bc it causes cancer. apparently cove water makes it more likely to cause cancer? i just ignore her and walk off. Cant stand her! people are soooo crazy! also, has the inapproprate belly touching started? if not, get excited about it! total strangers think if you are pregnant that it is completely acceptable to rub and touch your stomach. gross. i had a patient try to kiss my stomach! granted, she was crazy, but still.
ReplyDeleteWorst advice- the people who assume that because it worked for their kid it will work for mine. Argh.
