The Babymoon

We sold our house! We got an offer last Sunday, countered, and we are now moving November 16th. Hooray! On the downside we are moving November 16th with no new house in sight.  I know, this sounds like a new show on MTV called Homeless and Pregnant.
We have been frantically searching for a new home but we haven't been happy with anything we've found.  So, today, after going with our realtor to view another property at 9AM, we decided to rent until the dream home shows up. This involves moving twice though....not ideal.  But it's better than buying a home just to move within the timeline.

After making this decision I met my friend Jamie for lunch (she's so fun!) and went grocery shopping (not as much fun).  When I got home Darren had found a vacation rental on the lake! I hadn't even thought about vacation rentals!  We are able to move in when we want and don't have to bring any of our furniture because it's fully furnished. Also, if we end up staying until baby Hawkins makes his/her appearance it's a 2 bedroom, so the baby will have their own space.

So, November 15th we will have 2 PODs delivered to our house to put all of our belongings in storage, only to be seen again at the new dream home. Kind of crazy but it works for us.  What can I say, we never do anything the easy normal way. :-)

It's all funny to me though because just this week my daily pregnancy emails have been talking about taking a babymoon. I have been laughing at these emails thinking who has the time or money for that right now?  Then Darren gets us a vacation rental on the lake.

House sold.....check
Baby moon......check
Find out the sex of the baby.......check this Wednesday (we are psyched!)
Find dream home......stay tuned

  1. Congratulations on the house!!!!! That is such awesome news! And good call on the vacation rental - relaxing by the lake will make the last few months of pregnancy much more comfortable. Although I'm a little sad that MTV is now missing out on this Homeless and Pregnant gold mine opportunity you spoke of :)

From Doer to Leader, 5 Tips to Make the Transition

You did it! You got the promotion and now manage a team. It doesn't matter if it's a team of 1 or 100 your skill set must shift from doer to leader. While many a doer get promoted, few take on the actual characteristics of a leader. Instead they stay in doer mode causing frustration, resentment and turnover in their organization. This is what I refer to as "death by doer." Killing all hope, creativity and productivity of a team. Don't become the grim reaper of your team. Instead adopt these simple behaviors to ignite passion in your group and share your doer gifts. Stop doing and starting teaching Why were you such a successful doer? Because you thought differently than your peers. It's time to share that thinking with your team. As a leader it's your job to teach your team how to think, not what to think. Many a leader get caught up in micromanaging tasks. They believe there is only one way to accomplish a task and it's theirs. This is the u...

That's a Real Baby!

Darren and I got to see our little baby this week! He/she is measuring 13 weeks and 1 day and everything looked healthy. This picture cracks me up because the baby looks like it's pouting because we woke it up.  We did though, the tech was pushing on my belly like I do when I'm trying to get into pair of jeans that are too small!  Baby Hawk wouldn't move! Enter the Kashi cereal bar.  I hadn't eaten in nearly 4 hours (the appointment was VERY long) so I ate my Kashi bar that I always keep in my purse for ultrasound emergencies. BOOM, baby Hawk was wiggling and sucking and even looked like he/she was sucking it's thumb! Yes, this is indeed my baby, I go nuts for food too! I do think the profile looks like Darren though. Darren makes this cute pouty face when he's being funny.  So, the mystery is solved, this is Darren's baby. Whew, we were wondering. I'm totally kidding people! This picture is sort of creepy to me but I must share my 3-D picture. I...

Lean Into the Suck

I didn't coin this phrase but I believe it's the best description for the process I'm about to share with you. Have you ever had something hit you so hard you couldn't move? You were informed of the death of a relative, you were let go from your job, you had devastating news about your own health. Or maybe you didn't get into that dream school, you failed an exam or you screwed up at work. Any of these can knock you down. While I firmly believe in rising above the hurt and pain you feel I want to focus on the part before the rising. The part that the majority of people try desperately to skip over, 100% feeling the hurt, the anguish, the betrayal, the failure. This, my friends, is "leaning into the suck." If you asked me what eats at most people I would say it's their inability to lean into these emotions. We are in such a hurry to move on and "be strong" that we rush right over feeling and into solving. The Danger Why is it dange...
