Saturday Number 5

Today you had a few firsts. You had a real bath in your whale bathtub that Aunt Sissa gave you. You loved it and we were really happy. (I also think you loved it because of the fun wash cloth Aunt Sissa also gave you that we could drape over you to keep you warm) Maybe this means you will like to swim too! You laid there and let us pour water over you and we listened to Michael Jackson while we bathed you. Maybe you love Michael Jackson and not baths....I guess we'll find out later.

We took you to Atlanta Bread for lunch after your bath and you slept the whole time (as usual). We will be sad when this time ends but it will be fun when you're awake more too.

Later on in the evening we decided to be brave and take you to the grocery store for the first time. We tag teamed it by taking the stroller. Daddy pushed you up and down the aisles while I got groceries. At one point I was on one end of the store while Daddy was on the other just strolling you through the aisles. We've learned you love constant motion. We met up in the whole foods section, grabbed the last of the groceries and then checked out. I mentally high fived Daddy as we left. We did it!

Of course now we are home and you won't go to sleep because you are overtired.  With every victory there is a small defeat. We'll figure this out together. :-)

Your Nana and Papa Chicho arrive tomorrow and we are so excited for them to meet you. They are moving here from L. A. in July. Yep, they are moving across the country just for you baby girl.

From Doer to Leader, 5 Tips to Make the Transition

You did it! You got the promotion and now manage a team. It doesn't matter if it's a team of 1 or 100 your skill set must shift from doer to leader. While many a doer get promoted, few take on the actual characteristics of a leader. Instead they stay in doer mode causing frustration, resentment and turnover in their organization. This is what I refer to as "death by doer." Killing all hope, creativity and productivity of a team. Don't become the grim reaper of your team. Instead adopt these simple behaviors to ignite passion in your group and share your doer gifts. Stop doing and starting teaching Why were you such a successful doer? Because you thought differently than your peers. It's time to share that thinking with your team. As a leader it's your job to teach your team how to think, not what to think. Many a leader get caught up in micromanaging tasks. They believe there is only one way to accomplish a task and it's theirs. This is the u...

That's a Real Baby!

Darren and I got to see our little baby this week! He/she is measuring 13 weeks and 1 day and everything looked healthy. This picture cracks me up because the baby looks like it's pouting because we woke it up.  We did though, the tech was pushing on my belly like I do when I'm trying to get into pair of jeans that are too small!  Baby Hawk wouldn't move! Enter the Kashi cereal bar.  I hadn't eaten in nearly 4 hours (the appointment was VERY long) so I ate my Kashi bar that I always keep in my purse for ultrasound emergencies. BOOM, baby Hawk was wiggling and sucking and even looked like he/she was sucking it's thumb! Yes, this is indeed my baby, I go nuts for food too! I do think the profile looks like Darren though. Darren makes this cute pouty face when he's being funny.  So, the mystery is solved, this is Darren's baby. Whew, we were wondering. I'm totally kidding people! This picture is sort of creepy to me but I must share my 3-D picture. I...

LeaderSHIFT Academy

Each week I bring you a tip in the hopes that you not only enjoy the writing but you also implement positive change in your life. After months of planning I'm ready to take this a step further. Making the SHIFT It all started when I received my undergraduate degree and entered adulthood. I began to see something akin to an illness all around me. No matter how many promotions I received or how high I climbed the corporate ladder it was still there, in every level of management.  Even after receiving my MBA surrounded by some of the smartest people I've ever met, there it was, the plague.  What is this disease I refer to? The lack of sustainably* successful leadership.  I threw myself into biographies, podcasts and personal development books with the sole purpose of understanding what made a sustainably successful leader tick. Why were there so few? In July of this year everything fell into place. During a corporate event, Brendon Bruchard spoke ab...
