The Daily Routine

I have read several people's blogs where they have mentioned their daily routine with their kids. I love this because this routine will inevitably change, in fact, more than a few times over the course of 18 years. :-)

So here goes, this is our daily weekday life right now.

Mornings are so special to me right now. They get me centered for the day and they are sometimes the only time I get with Stella so mornings are sacred right now.
  • 5:30AM
    • Wake up, change into workout clothes and do my workout DVD for the day
  • 6:15AM
    • While eating breakfast email my workout buddy (Jen Crandall!!) to tell her about my workout (more on this in another post)
    • Pack the car with my pump, ice pack and cooler.
    • Make Stella's bottles for school.  This usually involves changing lids from my pumped milk to nipples and then making 1 bottle of formula. She is eating about 4 times a day now, only 1 time being formula but I have a feeling this ratio will change a lot over the next few weeks.
  • 6:30AM
    • Head upstairs to shower and get dressed
  • Between 6:45 and 7AM
    • Stella wakes up. As you can see this doesn't leave a lot of time for a long shower so I'm usually as fast as I can be leaving such frivelous activities as shaving my legs for the weekends or a day when I can tell Stella will sleep until 7:10 maybe.
    • Feed Stella. I'm still nursing so this is a special time for me. I usually read a book or just watch Stella in awe. Yes I've had a baby for almost 4 months now but I'm still amazed by that tiny being in my lap with all of her fingers and toes.  I especially like it when she's done eating, she usually pulls away and smiles at me.
  • 7:30AM
    • Change and Dress Stella. Again, such a fun time for me. She isn't old enough to throw a fit or even care what she's wearing so I get to decide and she just smiles at me as I take her PJs off and put on whatever cuteness I find in the closet.  Girl baby clothes are just fun! I'm not a girly girl so I never thought I would say that but motherhood changes a person.
    • Brush Stella's hair and look in the mirror for a few minutes.  Stella has just enough hair for it to stick up after a good sleep so I brush her hair every morning. While I'm brushing her hair we are always looking in the mirror in her bathroom talking about the pretty baby getting her hair brushed.  Stella loves the mirror.
  • 7:45AM
    • Put Stella's bottles in her bag for daycare, make sure everything is in her bag for daycare and then head out the door. (I actually have a cheat sheet by the backdoor of everything I need to walk out the door. The list includes such things as my lunch, breast pump, extra outfits for Stella. Don't worry I don't have Stella listed on the sheet)
    • Put Stella in her car seat and head to daycare.
  • 8:00AM
    • Drop Stella off at daycare where she always seems happy to go. (She's only 4 months, when she starts crying when I leave I will probably cry too)
  • 8:30 AM
    • Work
  • 5:30 (or 6:30, or 7:30) PM
    • Head home.
  • 6:30 or 7PM
    • If it's Wednesday I try to leave around 5:30 so I can get home to bathe Stella. It sounds gross but she's almost on solids so we are about to switch to a daily bath.
    • Read Stella's daily report. Anyone who has had a child in daycare knows what this is. The daycare tells you everything your child did for the day, down to poops, pees, naps and bottles. Because I am psycho I devour this thing like some people do the wallstreet journal. Darren and I actually discuss as well. This is how that conversation may go.
Me: Wow, she pooped 3 times today
Darren: And again when I got her home (Darren picks her up at 6 everyday)
Me: Look at her naps, she is really sleeping well (horribly) (this depends on the day)
Darren: Did you see she found her feet today?
Me: No, oh wait, here it is. Wow, that's great. She also listened to One Two Buckle my shoe.
Darren: They told me she's really good with the other babies

  • 6:45PM
    • Stella goes to bed. Darren always puts her to bed so this isn't really my job but if he's out of town of course it is.
  • 7PM or 8PM
    • Make dinner, eat dinner, clean up, wash bottles and pump parts, make lunches
  • 9PM
    • Bed. Yes, I go to bed at 9PM and I love it. I don't do well with little sleep so this is my solution.
  • 2 or 3AM
    • Feed Stella. She's stopped doing this every night but this was what it used to be every night. This week I only had to get up last night! Yippee! That means 12 hours she slept!
And that's our day. All of this will change with the introduction of solids. I'm still not sure when to fit those in. Maybe in the morning and then at school.  She takes her last bottle at 5:30 at school so she doesn't eat at home at night....again this will change I'm sure.

  1. I LOVE the conversation part. I am laughing just imagining it every night. So cute. Love y'all.

This is a fun post! I like Stella details like this, so I can really know what my girl is doing.

  2. I love, love the details. I am just imagining her in the mirror as she is getting her hair brushed.

WAY TO GO WITH THE NURSING!!!! Keeping it up while going back to work has to be one of the hardest things in the world and you are a rockstar for doing so well. Formula is inevitable if you work and I think I introduced Anderson to it at 3 months, too!

I am impressed with the working out situation. Rockstar, again.

You didn't mention being "Dressed to the nines". Also impressive.

I must take your advice on going to bed at 9. I MUST PUT DOWN THE BOOK AND GO TO BED. This will inspire me.

I want to see you. And the Stella. :(

  3. First - THANK YOU for finding my blog and for your sweet words! I would LOVE to see you sometime when we're in Atlanta! I'm not sure when we will brave a road trip, but Atlanta is at the top of the list since we generally go several times a year to visit friends in Woodstock and Dacula. We will have to meet up sometime!

Second - Stella is precious, and I love the Saturday posts you are doing! *note to self - Saturdays are even more precious than I realized now that I know how many I have!* I also love that you posted about her routine. ..routines are vital to our sanity as new moms, but I'm sure the details will fade with time. I want us to be able to remember them, and this is a great way to do it. Thank you for sharing so much about Stella and your day.

Ditto on Melissa's nursing comments - WAY TO GO!!!! Nursing / pumping is way more challenging than anyone ever tells us beforehand, and keeping it up while working adds a whole new level of difficulty. You rock!!

I will end by saying - I have no idea how you do the early morning workouts! Totally impressed. :)

So glad to see you all are doing so well and are in a happy place! You are an awesome mommy!

That's a Real Baby!

Darren and I got to see our little baby this week! He/she is measuring 13 weeks and 1 day and everything looked healthy. This picture cracks me up because the baby looks like it's pouting because we woke it up.  We did though, the tech was pushing on my belly like I do when I'm trying to get into pair of jeans that are too small!  Baby Hawk wouldn't move! Enter the Kashi cereal bar.  I hadn't eaten in nearly 4 hours (the appointment was VERY long) so I ate my Kashi bar that I always keep in my purse for ultrasound emergencies. BOOM, baby Hawk was wiggling and sucking and even looked like he/she was sucking it's thumb! Yes, this is indeed my baby, I go nuts for food too! I do think the profile looks like Darren though. Darren makes this cute pouty face when he's being funny.  So, the mystery is solved, this is Darren's baby. Whew, we were wondering. I'm totally kidding people! This picture is sort of creepy to me but I must share my 3-D picture. I...

To Stella

I thought it would be fun to write a letter to you before I met you. We could read it together later and laugh about how clueless I was about you! Dear Stella, It's Christmas 2011 and I honestly haven't thought at all about the holiday this year.  All I can think about is March, when I get to meet you for the first time.  Your Dad and I went to the hospital this week to check out where you would be born! I thought for sure going to the hospital would make me anxious but instead it made me incredibly excited. What a gift it is to bring someone into the world and because of you I get to experience that.  You have no idea how much you were prayed for, wanted, hoped for, for so many years. I always knew I wanted to be a mother, even back in high school when I worked in a toy store and joked about getting my tubes tied. :-) But, when I found out about YOU I couldn't have been happier.  I remember standing in the bathroom completely convinced that I had willed ...

2012 Highlights

So I'm obviously abandoning my attempt to try to capture every Saturday in Stella's life. I now realize that's impossible. Plus, not everything in the world happens on a Saturday. It's the fun/sad/crazy moments that are the ones you want to remember right? (by sad I mean "my baby's growing up" sniff sniff)  And those usually happen on a random Tuesday or something. So I'm going to attempt in this last post of the year (and some of you may be saying "your only post this year", no I had like 7 okay...ha ha) to remember the BEST moments of my life in 2012. You may want to go pee, eat something and bring a drink back, this sucker's going to be long. Our House January 1st we moved into our house. I love our house. It is seriously a fairytale house and neighborhood where I want my babies to grow up. I have a nightmare once a month that involves us moving, I usually wake up very sad. Odd, yes. Apparently you know you're old when you...
