My famous last words. I have neglected to share our newest complication. On Labor Day weekend, Sunday to be exact, we went to Cumming for the day to look at houses. Because my bladder is about the size of an acorn now I knew I should pee before we leave. I used the half bath toilet, not thinking anything of it. The part of the toilet that connects to the waterline decided to split. We got home 5 hours later to a flood on our main level that had made it's way to our basement. Ugh. Although, this was fully covered on our insurance, whew!
Over the last few weeks we have had various repair men in our house cleaning up the water installing new hardwood floors. I never see any of these people as I'm out about 12 to 14 hours a day. I have started calling the repair guys elves because I never see them but things are always different when I get home. For instance, last week I pulled in the driveway starving (as usual) and ready to cook dinner. I walked into my kitchen to find this. I was happy that they had sanded the floor and replaced missing boards that were damaged from the flood.
But, this was diconcerting for 2 reasons. 1, I really wanted to cook dinner. 2, we have an island in our kitchen and as you can see it isn't there any longer. Also all of our other furniture was missing....where could it be? There were huge tarps on all rooms so I couldn't see anything until I pulled the sheet back from our living room.
And this is what I saw. Sorry, it's sideways. We found out a few minutes later that we would have to stay in a hotel after this night because they would be staining the floors and it had to dry for 48 hours.
So, we spent the next 2 nights at the Holiday Inn next to my office. Darren had free nights, thank goodness. I also got a taste of my commute once we move, it took me 7 minutes to get to work!!
Oh and if you're wondering, obviously our house isn't on the market currently. Luckily we were about to relist with a price change the day after Labor Day. Darren just called our agent (who is awesome by the way) and explained the situation. We should be back on the market by next week though!! Yippee!
On a sad note, with our basement being flooded I lost all of my college pictures. We lost other things too but that's the hardest loss, the one that really meant the most.
On the bright side this whole fiasco just puts things in perspective. Our cat was okay and no one died. A few pictures lost really isn't the end of the world. And now our hardwoods look fabulous!

I am a terrible friend because I have not even asked about this even though I knew it was happening. I'm so glad that you got to drive to work in 7 minutes!
ReplyDeleteOH, dear. I didn't realize it was so bad! But, yay for new hardwoods!
ReplyDeleteOh dude!!! The house stuff is whatever - but losing the pictures - that really sucks!! I'm so sorry for that! Thank goodness for beauty of digital pics now! As long as both Snapfish and your house don't flood at the same time, you're cool :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer! Maybe it will be the key to selling your house though! And I dont mind at all that you passed on my home info. I appreciate it!
